Alejandro Ordoñez: The Abigail Williams of Gustavo Petro
The last 9th of December (2013) the whole country was in shock thanks to one of the most controversial news of the time, the removal and destitution of 15 years to exert public charges in Colombia, in hands of the General Attorney against Gustavo Petro. He was allegedly accused of leaving Bogota without sanitation for 2 complete days, chaos reigned then. Finally Ordoñez obtained what he wanted, to remove from a public charge an ex militant of the subversive group M-19. It’s not moral to have a subversive in a public charge, deciding for the future, and for Bogota; this might Ordoñez have thought. Ordoñez didn’t rest until Petro was totally removed from his charge. That’s why Petro’s Case is a modern day witch hunt.
The accusations around Petro were true. He left the sanitation to 2 companies that didn’t do their job of recollecting wastes for 2 days. But the measures taken by the General National Attorney where too drastic, removing completely, for 15 years, his charge as a public functionary. According to Councilman from the U, in a interview for Semana, Orlando Parada, said the decision was seen coming: "The question was when they were going to dismiss”. What one could probably infer from this quote is that the government was creating a complot against Petro. This councilman, according to Semana, is Ordoñez friend maybe restating that they are against Petro.
According to RCN the destitution wasn’t a decision to be taken by the GNA neither the General Attorney, Alejandro Ordoñez: “The constitution only approves a public destitution if a fault is extremely serious. This means that attempts against the constitution.” which obviously Petro respected. A week later, 4 employees from the 2 sanitary companies busted open to the press, giving a hint to a complot against Petro. According to El Espectador, 4 men working for these 2 companies said: “During the time Petro made a new reformation to the recollection of wastes in all Bogota, our supervisors and employers tell us not to go and recollect the wastes for 2 days”. By this, one can infer that there is a secret complot against Petro in which most of the government is involved. Surely days after that Petro sewed the decision in the ASO (American States Organization) and won it, but Juan Manuel Santos decided not to follow the ruling.
That is why Petro`s case is a modern day witch hunt. The government did everything to overthrow Petro from the public charge and make his life miserable. The question here is whether the government has more power than the people to overthrow a public and majority decision?
